Description
The Bonaire Shore Diver Specialty Course is designed to teach certified divers how to conduct independent shore dives safely and confidently in Bonaire’s unique self-guided diving environment. The course focuses on dive planning, navigation, environmental stewardship, and the shore diving techniques specific to Bonaire’s coastline, marked dive sites, and generally calm conditions. The course is open to certified divers of all experience levels, including families as the only prerequisites are that participants are at least 10 years old and hold a Junior Open Water Diver certification (or higher of course). The day begins with a classroom theory session covering Bonaire’s local laws and marine park regulations, independent dive planning, navigation, shore entry and exit techniques, equipment setup, emergency procedures, and special considerations for night diving. We will then go out for two shore dives, at two different sites. Throughout the course, students will develop the skills and confidence needed to dive safely, responsibly, and independently while protecting Bonaire’s incredible marine environment.
By the end of the course, students will be able to:
- Plan and execute independent shore dives in Bonaire.
- Use Bonaire’s yellow stones and dive site markers to locate entry and exit points.
- Safely manage shore entries and exits.
- Navigate using both natural references and a compass.
- Dive responsibly while following Bonaire National Marine Park regulations.
- Manage vehicles, tanks, and logistics for successful multi-dive days.
